Ambassador Lu Shaye Attends Opening Ceremony of International Garden Festival in Canada

on June 30,Canada's International Garden Festival opened in Gatineau, Quebec. Ambassador Lu Shaye attended at invitation the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. More than 300 guests, including Melanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Julie Boulet, Quebec Minister of Tourism and Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin, Mayor of Gatineau, attended the ceremony and watched the gardening works from Canada and China.

Ambassador Lu said in a speech that China-Canada relationship has witnessed sound development since the mutual visits between Chinese Premier and Canadian Prime Minister. Beijing and Shanghai's participations in this International Garden Festival to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of Canada is a concrete implementation of the results of the visits. He believed China's gardening works will promote mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. Canadian Minister of Heritage Melanie Joly thanked the gardeners for their hard work, and thanked especially for the birthday blessing for Canada from the guests coming afar from China.

As this International Garden Festival coincided with the 150th anniversary of the founding of Canada, all provinces and regions of Canada participated in the event with their representative works. The organizing committee invited the botanical garden departments of Beijing and Shanghai to make two large parterres respectively named "Auspicious Dragons Bring Happiness" and "Nine Lions Present Auspiciousness". These two parterres gained unanimously recognition and popularity among the Canadian officials, media and the public.
