On the evening of November 8 2004, President Hu Jintao made a phone conversation with US President Bush upon invitation. Bush first thanked Hu for sending the message of congratulations to him on his renewing office as the President of the United States of America. He noted that in his new term of office, he will continue to be dedicated to enhancing the cooperation in all fields between the US and China. Bush reaffirmed that the US Government will not change its stand on the Taiwan Question. Hu made active remarks on the progress that has been achieved in many fields between the two countries over the recent years. He emphasized that as long as the two sides keep a firm grip of the correct direction in the development of bilateral relations and abide by the principles of the three joint communiqués between China and the US, the China-US relations will achieve healthy and stable development. Hu noted that the Chinese side appreciates the action taken by the US side of reaffirming for many times to uphold the one China policy, abide by the three joint communiqués between China and the US as well as oppose the stand of "Taiwan Independence". The two heads of state also exchanged views on other issues and expressed that they are looking forward to meeting again during the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. |
