On February 23, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with former Prime Minister Jean Chretien of Canada.
Wang Yi expressed that Chinese Premier and Canadian Prime Minister conducted successful mutual visits within a month last year, injecting new impetus into the development of bilateral relations. China is willing to, together with the Canadian side, deepen communication and cooperation in various fields, so as to forge a new "golden era" of China-Canada relations. Both China and Canada should hold high the banner of free trade and promote globalization to develop in a more inclusive direction with shares benefits. Wang Yi also introduced China's development strategies.
Jean Chretien expressed that he always actively commits to boosting the development of bilateral relations. Under the background of current international situation filled with uncertainties, it is very important for both countries to maintain sound relations.
